Is it a free pattern on the net?  Can you link to it if so?  Or if not, is there a pic of the finished item on the net so we can see what the sleeves look like?

I think, if that is the same one, scrolling down to the bottom of this page should (hopefully) orient you.  It looks like you are attaching yarn to the armhole and  working 2 rounds of the body's stitch pattern around the armhole opening, plus an edging.
