Help with pattern

Hi, 

I'm fairly new to crochet and I'm really stuck with this pattern. Its to make a small flower to attach to a stuffed animal, but makes no sense to me. 

3ch, join the ring.

2ch. 2tr. 1ss (3tr. 1ss) 4 times

Fasten off

Is the whole second line supposed to be 4 times or just the brackets, can't seems to make anything resembling a flower with this.

You work the part within ( ) four times

You should end up with 5 petals to your flower.  

this part at the beginning [2ch. 2tr. 1ss}  is just how you would do the next 4 petals.  ch 2 = 1 tr, + 2 tr is therefore 3 tr>  this gets you started from your flat chain.

your slip stitch will define each petal.

 

BTW - I am assuming you are using British terms.
