Blogroll Question

Hi :-),

 

I've just started a crochet blog (http://www.hook-and-hype.de) and I would like to add some URLs to other blogs, I enjoy reading, to this so called "blogroll" link category (I use Wordpress software). Am I supposed to ask the other blog admins for permission or do I just add their blogs? Sorry, if this is a very dump question, but I'm absolutely new to bloging and just want to be polite.

You can link wherever the heck you want

I use wordpress as well. But I keep my blogroll on bloglines.com. They have a program that notifies you when someone on your blogroll updates, so you can keep up with your reading. They also have code that you can add to your sidebar that will display your blogroll on your blog so you don't have to enter it in two places. I find it easier that way.

Not a dumb question, but I've always been told you should most definately ask permission. The more places someone is linked to, the more opportunity for someone to take their work and call it their own. I think it's common courtesy to ask. Most people are honored you want to add a link to your site, but I would encourage you to ask. After all, they often have pictures of themselves, their families etc. It should be their decision.
