SIZING QUESTION

ellencombs

Question

I'm new to this site and I have a general sizing question.

I want to crochet a dress for Christmas for a 12 month size girl.  I found a cute pattern but it's for 3 to 6  months.  I would really appreciate it if someone can explain how to figure out how to make the pattern work for 12 months?  If not, or if too complicated, does anyone have a pattern that would work for a 12 month baby girl?  I've looked everywhere I can think of.  I'm fairly experienced but I would try anything anyone can suggest.

Welcome to Crochetville from me, too!

I like Kathy's suggestion. But, just in case we don't find something, a 1 yo around is not much different than a 6 mo. The biggest difference is height. Take her neck, chest and length from the base of the neck to where you want the dress to fall measurements. (Add some for growth while you work.) If it's a pullover, take her head measurement, too. Use the 6 mo pattern & add enough pattern repeats for your measurements. (You'll need a gauge swatch to calculate.) Also, add rows until you get the length you want. Does this make sense?

There are some similarly constructed patterns at freepatterns.com; you need to register, but it's free and they don't send  you annoying adds.  The below patterns start at 12 months and also a couple of larger sizes.  This site is run by the same folks as own e-patternscentral, I've seen some patterns drift between the free site and the pay-for site.
