Crochet with hood pattern

rabrewer

Question

Does anyone know where I can find a pattern for a poncho with a hood? I would like a poncho that is longer in the front and back that on the sides. I don't want it done in granny squares. I am not able to crochet difficult patterns. Any help in finding such a pattern would be appreciated. Ruth Ann

The only one I found was child size, and not free http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/girls-hooded-flower-poncho.

Maybe a poncho in the v shape & stitch pattern you want with matching hat and scarf?

Found one with a turtle neck

Unfortunately since it's not free, I can't look at it to make a judgement.  It's already using worsted weight and a J hook, so a larger hook probably won't get you to an adult size.  And doubling the yarn and a huge hook won't yield a nice drapey fabric.  If the hood wasn't too small for an adult, you could probably just 'keep going' to make it bigger, but it's hard to tell.

Other possibilities, these are not V shaped but they cover front and back but your arms are freer than just a straight hemmed cape/poncho, if that aspect is what you were going after with the V shape.  Also, not free:

Another thought, find a V shaped poncho with no hood, and create a wimple hood.  Just make the poncho, re-attach the yarn at the neckline and crochet around and around until you make a  tube that you can pull over your head.  This makes excess fabric under the face, but that keeps your neck warm.  I'm not finding any crochet wimple/cowl/smoke ring examples, here are some knit examples just to show you what they look like when worn.  Note, these work best when the fabric is drapey not stiff.

Thanks so much for all the time you took to search for patterns. I have already purchased two patterns. I make one of them, but don't like how it is turning out. The other one is a vintage pattern that seems just took complicated. I sent for a book that has 50 crochet and knit ponchos, but only one has a hood and it is knitted. Like you said I probably need to add a hood to a crocheted pattern. I really prefer one that doesn't have buttons. Thanks again.
