What is "QDC" stitch

DawnG

Question

Hello,

I am a beginner crocheter.  A pattern I recently purchased includes "QDC in 16th CH from hook." I am familiar with several basic crochet stitches but don't know what "QDC" is. I've done an internet search and cannot find the answer. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

welcome to the ville :hook

the pattern should have a key explaining all the abbreviations used in it.  be sure you have looked at the beginning and end of the pattern for a list of abbreviations or a "special stitches" section.

what is the pattern?  can you link to a picture where you bought it from?

HI!!!

I've been crocheting for a long time, and I've never seen this abbreviation!!!

It has something to be with Double Crochet, but the Q?¿?...I don't know...

Could it be an error¿?¿?!

Sorry.... :no

Hello everyone. Thanks for your replies. I really appreciate it.  Here is a link to the pattern:

I looked all through the pattern and didn't see a key. I am so new to crochet, but from looking at the picture, do you think it might be what NancyBanta mentioned above?

Thank you again,

Dawn

I've messaged the designer - found her on another board.  Let's see what she says.

I told her that there is no explaination of the stitch on the pattern so could she tell me what it is, how to do it or if it's just a typo.

I'll post her answer.

Here is the answer straight from the designer:

Hi Nancy,
A QDC is a Quadruple Crochet.
YO X 3 and pull up a loop in designated stitch.
YO and pull thru to loops….4 times.

I think I must have up loaded an old file….the instructions should include the how to for the stitch. I will take down the file and upload the correct file.

Thanks for the Heads Up!

Hello Everyone,

Thank you so much, again, for your replies and helpfulness. I received a message from the designer and thought I'd share the message with you all in case you come across "QDC" in the future.

From Cindy, "re: Question on one of your Patterns

Hi Dawn,
A QDC is a Quadruple Crochet.
YO X 3 and pull up a loop in designated stitch.
YO and pull through 2 loops…..4 times.
I will remove the file and upload the correct file which does include the “how to” on the stitch.

I have gotten 2 messages on this today……so Thanks for the Heads Up!

Thanks again. You ladies are GREAT! I am so excited to be learning crochet!

Hi Nancy.  I think we were typing at the same time for this one. Thanks for checking on this. I appreciate your help! Dawn

for future reference, this stitch is more commonly called double treble/triple (in US terms) http://www.nexstitch.com/v_double_treble.html

https://www.lionbrand.com/faq/230.html?language=   so if you see dtr in a pattern, that is a stitch you already know  ;)

here is a tutorial by another designer who uses the term quadruple, but would abbreviate it as "quad"---which to me is a more clear abbreviation.   qdc to me looks like a typo of "dc"  http://www.meladorascreations.com/learntocrochet.htm

Kathy, I've visited and bookmarked each of the links. Thank you. I am quite eager to learn. I've been sick the last couple days, and all I could think about was "I sure wish I felt better so I could crochet." :) Thanks again. Dawn

It could be a special stitch that the designer uses too. Here's a pattern that one person uses it.

Heart

I like the heart pattern, thank for sharing. Also, I was going to say it's a double triple (dtc) crochet. Quadruple crochet (Qdc) is nice too.
