I don't believe I've ever seen that stitch before, so I can't help you.  I'm sorry - I hope someone else here knows what it is, because it's very pretty!!

I think it is some sort of fillet work.

Pretty!  Looks like a spider lace variation, this isn't the pattern but to give you an idea.  Without the blocks, just  spiders with bigger bodies (sounds like a horror movie!)
