I'm sure there are many shamrock patterns out there, but this is my version. I hope you like it. :)

(I know a shamrock technically has 3 leaves, but I like the word! ;) It sounds so much better than a regular old clover!)

The pattern is all one piece, no sewing needed. It's rather large, probably around 5", though I'm sure you could use other yarns and hooks to achieve a smaller size. I used Vanna's Choice in Kelly Green (the pics are the same shamrock! just under different lighting conditions). The lighter looking one is pinned to my dark teal cubicle wall. I pinned 3 in all, and they look perfect for March. :c9

Rnd 1. Ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook

Rnd 2. (Sc, ch 1) around [8 sc]

Rnd 3. 2 sc in each sc (skip the ch 1's), 3 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. [17 sc]

Rnd 4. Sc in first st (mark this stitch, it will be used later for the stem), then start leaves as follows, working in regular back-and-forth rows:

* 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st. Ch 1, turn. [6 sc; 4 st used]

Row 5. Sc in each sc. Ch 1, turn. [6 sc]

Row 6. Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc, Ch 1, turn. [8 sc]

Row 7. Repeat row 5. [8 sc]

Row 8. Repeat row 5. [8 sc]

Row 9. Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc, Ch 1, turn. [10 sc]

Row 10. Sk first sc, (sc, hdc) in next sc, (2 dc) in next sc, (hdc, sc) in next sc, sl st in next 2 sc, (sc, hdc) in next sc, (2 dc) in next sc, (hdc, sc) in next sc, sl st in last sc.

Sl st all the way down the side of the leaf until you reach the base of the leaf (i.e. the st at the base of the last st on row 4 for that leaf - you can just join new yarn instead of sl st'ing all the way down if you prefer).

Repeat from * for leaf 2 & 3

Leaf 4:

On row 4, from *, change as follows: 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st, st st in marked st. Ch 1, turn.

Row 5. Sk first st you just sl st'ed into, sc in ea sc. Ch 1, turn. [6 sc]

Continue in leaf pattern above.

Stem: Sl st into marked sc (if not sl st'ing down the side, just join new yarn here). Ch 16, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 2 st, hdc in next 4 st, sc in remaining ch's, sl st to marked sc. Finish off.
