Simple scarf for men.

I have made several of these. Very simple and look great. I can't remember where I got the pattern. I make a chain to desired lenght endind with odd number, usually over 200. Single crochet in each chain, chain one, turn, single crochet in second single crochet, chain one, skip single crochet, single crochet in next single crochet until end, chain one, turn. Single crochet in chain one space all the way across. Single crochet in turning chain, chain one, turn. Repeat last row until one row less than desired width. For last row, single crochet in chain one space and each single crochet. Tie off. Finish with fringe. I can usually get one scarf out of a skein of yarn.

 

This one was made with Hobby Lobby, Love This Yarn, Tweed and a K size hook. It takes a couple of hours to make.

Great scarf - very manly! I think what you described may be the "woven stitch." It's one of my favorites too!
