Soap Socks

Miss Crochet

I tried making these in crochet but found knitting smoother with such thick and lumpy wool (I also got more value from my 50g skein when I knit them rather than crochet. Yup. I said it. Take me away to be flogged.)

Even mediocre knitters can manage these - it's just stockinette stitch. They are perfect for craft fairs because they're cheap to make and people just love to feel and smell them (one woman bought a couple to put in her drawers to scent her clothes.) The tutorial is here.

Thank you Sandi! :-)

Well, I'm one of those odd people who actually like 'real' soap! And I put bars of soap among my yarns to make them smell nice - there's a bar of lilac soap by a German company that I just love. It reminds me of my grandmother. In fact, when I was wee, the height of sophistication was Yardley lavender soap, which someone - my mother, my aunts, my grandmother - inevitably got for Christmas. I thought it was just the smell of richness and womanly sophistication, bless my innocence :lol
