Looking for a specific type of yarn

Hookin' Fairy

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty new to crocheting, I've really only used Bernat or Redheart ww yarn.

For my new project, I would like to use a heavy (but not thick), soft yarn (silky maybe?)

It's for a hooded scarf. I would like the hood to be more like one you'd see on a cloak, very wide and drapes down.

Any suggestions?

What kind of fiber(s) are you looking for? Acrylic? Cotton? Wool? Bamboo? There are acrylic yarns that feel "silky." Can you get to a shop of some kind and walk your hands through the available yarns?

It also sounds like you're looking for a worsted weight (Class 4) to work with maybe a G or thereabouts hook?

Lion Brand Jiffy might work. It's bulky weight, but not big and clumpy. It's acrylic made to look like mohair, only it's smoother. It's a dream to crochet with it.

Bamboo yarn has a heavy feel to it, comes in lots of different sizes so you can get thick or thin. it is not warm however, though you might find some kind of wool-bamboo blend. it has wonderful drape, and is very silky. it can become saggy when worn due to the drapiness, but it goes back into shape when washed.
