Edging dilemma

I just Knit a shrug with short sleeves. Now I would like to do a nice edging along the sleeves, the bottom edge, the neck edge and down the centers....ok, everywhere there is an edge. I haven't a clue what to do. I would like something lacey...not just sc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:hook

what about a shell pattern where you put 3-5 dc together in one space.

how about a picot edge?

I have done a picot stitch in knitting, but don't think I have seen it in crocheting....gonnahaveta check it out. Thanks
