Pirate Skully

I made this basic beanie with two sc stripes in red, the rest is dc black. with a J hook and Red heart super saver. Then I used the Day of the dead Skull as an applique. ( it is a free Ravelry download at http://www.ravelry.com/download/27532/free ) I used #10 Thread and a 7 hook for the applique.

I made the 2 bones by doing:

ch 3, 8 dc , 1 sc, 8 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook, then I did a hdc that was in the bottom of the sc to close up the hole, ch 26, and repeat the first side of the bone in the last ch made, then I hdc across the ch and sl to the center of the hole and finished off.

I made two bones and actually curved them behind the skull to give the effect of crossed bones.

Gonna wear this on Halloween to hand out the candy.
