How do you increase a stitch?

I think that in this pattern the yarn over is what actualy makes the "eyelet" row that outlines the square. If you were to do a normal increase, you wouldn't get the row with the "holes". Here is a link to different ways to increase stitches: http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/increases

I did a baby afghan like that..

The "holes" around is for the edging and increases.

You just bring your yarn in front like you would to purl when you knit the next stitch just gave it a extra little tug. That might help get it a little tighter on the needle.
