Baby afghan - seeking opinions

I want to make an afghan for my cousin's baby shower. I'm thinking of the big rainbow granny (?) - can't think of the name of it yet - need more of this

 

The parents are 2 lesbians and I wonder if the rainbow would make them think I'm making some kind of dig about gay pride or whatever. I hope they wouldn't take it that way because I mean well - and maybe they would even appreciate that - but I just want this to be a heartfelt, handmade gift for their baby - with sexual preference totally out of the picture.

 

Thoughts or opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

my opinion, yes they may think that, but why not make it in pastel colors not so obvious then , it sounds lovely

I don't think anyone is going to think you went to all the time and trouble to make a hand made object to make a dig. I'm sure they will appreciate the blanket for what it is; a gift from the heart.

Find out what the theme of the room is and do something to fit it. I made a rainbow baby afghan for a gay couple for their child, and they loved it. The theme of the room happened to be rainbows.

it will be beautiful in pastels. one afghan i am making over and over is the afghan of the sandman from http://www.crochetgarden.com it gets lots of ohhhs and ahhhs at the showers.

If they did think of gay pride, it wouldn't be likely to offend them (just the opposiute, most likely.) I dunno...I see a pastel baby afghan and think of springtime and rainbows. Either way, it's okay.

I think it would be a lovely gift - pastel colors are always suitable for baby afghans!
