Question about when pattern says for example multiple 6 + 2 stitches

If a multiple of a pattern is multiple 6 + 2 stitches would I make 8 additional chains to increase the pattern?

No, you would do it by 6's and then add 2. Say for instance you want it 5 times larger. You would chain 6x5=30+2=32.

If I was doing a pattern and it said ch a multiple of 6+2 I would think that would mean to chain 12 or 18 or 24 depending on length I needed and add 2ch to that number.

The +2 is for when you turn and start with your first stitch in the 2nd or 3rd chain from the hook I bet.
