"Blossom" style hat

Question

Not sure if anyone remembers that show, but she used to wear a hat (no idea what kind it's called) and I'd like to find a pattern for an adult. It is similar to a rolled brim, but the front part of the brim stays up. Like the one here http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://images.etsy.com/all_images/3/364/ea1/il_430xN.9389075.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.craftjuice.com/search.php%3Fsearch%3Dchenille%2Bcrochet%2Bcap%26tag%3Dtrue&usg=__Kk9N8dLqS41_ZILVg6FnG8VTKf4=&h=322&w=430&sz=26&hl=en&start=34&um=1&tbnid=wurKqaaNtoYZSM:&tbnh=94&tbnw=126&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcrochet%2Brolled%2Bbrim%2Bhat%26start%3D20%26ndsp%3D20%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26hs%3DMXb%26sa%3DN

I tried making a newsboy cap for myself, but it didn't come out right. Fits, but a little tight (and I even added a row of increases) and the brim will not stay up, folds down into my face.

And for all you fashionistas what type of hat would you wear w/a sweater dress/tunic? TIA

I have found that it is easiest to make this style by making your standard hat down to where you want the brim to be.

work 2 FPhdc into one st, FPhdc in next, around.

then just work hdc in hdc and increase only if you have to in order to keep the brim flat. Then find a great motif to use to secure the brim in the up position.

Ok question for you on this then. How do you FPhdc? Better yet how do you crochet around the front post? One pattern I have (a hat) says to crochet FPhdc on the second row beneath... confusing to me. Of course I've only been doing this for about a yr now, but I've done pretty good.
