Sewing zipper into crochet projects

Recommended Posts

In general, the way that I have done zippers directly is to whip stitch on the wrong side. Then on the right side, back stitch it close to the edge.

I'll try to explain it step by step:

In permanently attaching, make sure the zipper is closed first. Pin the zipper in place so the edges of your piece cover the teeth but make sure it's not too close where your piece will get caught when you unzip and re zip. You will do this on the right side. You must pin and then baste.

Next, you flip to the wrong side and whip stitch in place.

Lastly, you turn to the right side, backstitch neatly and remove your basting. From firsthand experience, if you stitch too tightly it will bunch. Make sure you don't stitch too tightly.

I hope this will help you out a little. The best of luck to you and your baby! At least you live in a warm place. My DD is also a Feb. baby and we had a bad storm the week I had her.
