New/Fisherman Afghan: To Border or not to border

hookd1989

Question

I'm about to complete a Fisherman Afghan for a full sized bed. The pattern is worked in stripes from the head to the foot of the bed without a border. I am so used to doing afghans with borders and I feel that the afgan will look unfinished without one.

Q1: Do I leave it alone or add a border?

Q2: If I add a border, any suggestioned stitches so that it will not look too busy?

Thank you in advance...and love the forum. "Lurked" for a couple of days and decided to join. :manyheart

I personally like borders on afghans, but if it's striped, it may look too busy. I'd say if you were to put a border on it, make it a simple, unadorned pattern...even a sc around it might be just the finish it needs.

I also like the look of borders or edgings (depending on you who talk to) so I always put something on each one (even if it doesn't call for one).

I also agree with a simple edging, like sc or perhaps a reverse sc, something that would not detract with the pattern.

Good luck.
