Scarf and hyperbolic ball

I made this scarf and ball for my granddaughter for Christmas. Both are made from Bernat Softee Baby. pics are clickable.

the scarf is sections of linked double crochet (like in the Rosemary sweater by Robyn Chachula http://www.interweavecrochet.com/issue/materials_listf07.asp#chachula ; when I saw Robyn demonstrate this on Knitting Daily TV I realized what a pretty stitch it is) and sections of a lacy stitch pattern from McCall's Crochet Treasury--a book from the 70s.

The ball was made by starting with chain 6, 1 round of sc into the ring as many times as I could comfortably--probably about 15, then doing 3 or 4 rounds of 3 dc in each stitch. that makes it constantly increase so you end up with a ball shape. It was fun to make and fun to play with the ruffles and reshape it.
