Tunisian Stitch help

Yarnmistress

Question

I am making a baby blanket using this stitch and for the project I ch 100 and then started the rows. I am on row 5 and my whole piece is curling like crazy. I notice on smaller projects it doesn't curl, only on bigger size projects.... WHY??? WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? or is this just the way it happens?

I am really frustrated here..... any suggestions?

all ideas/suggestions appreciated!

I don't do this stitch but I've read, in forums, that the curling is normal. I'm sure others will have ideas on how to decrease the curl.

I just got my set of hooks and books, and I read somewhere how to help curb some of the curling, but they did say the curling was normal and could be taken care of by blocking when you are finished.

I'll see if I can find what it says to do.

Quote:
By the hook.... are you the lovely lady that has that website with all the hats? If so I am a HUGE fan!

Well, I do have a blog and I do have a lot of hat patterns on it, so if I'm the one you're talking about...THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

mmouseplus.gifTunisian curls unless you use the tunisian purl stitch or something similar to even it out. However, once you're finished, putting a nice crocheted edging around it will also straighten it out. Doesn't help, however, with the annoying flipping up while trying to finish the tunisian part! :rofl

I'm still new to tunisian, but I have read that keeping the tension on the loose side or using a larger hook, will help.

And as someone mentioned, the purl stitch helps.

I checked my book that came with the hooks and it said if you do the first row in the back loop(I think that's what it said) of your starting chain, it helps reduce the curling.

Hope that helps.
