Open stitch? Mesh stitch??

Help! I'm not really looking for a pattern, per say. More like an idea of how to make a stitch. I have seen a few different variations. THIS is the kind of scarf I want to make and I am wondering what kind of stitch it is, and how I can make it. Also, what size hook would you recommend?

Looks like a simple double crochet, ch 1 stitch.

very simple...

 

decide how wide you want your scarf..

 

you chain that many .. then decide if you want doubles or trebles.. i prefer trebles ..

 

so say you want it 12 chains across.. then you would chain 4 more for your treble on the turn plus 2 for the two you are gonna skip...then you treble in the 6th chain from your hook.. ch2 skip 2 ch...treble.. chain 2.. skip 2 ch to the end.. treble in the last stitch chain 6 turn..treble in the next treble ..
