What kind of doily

Recommended Posts

I have crocheted butterflies place mats (looks something like this http://www.maggiescrochet.com/maggies-crochet-beautiful-butterfly-doily-pattern-p-169.html?zenid=eac0a2e60088f2eb52cb5f58074db7a2) as a christmas gift. I want to make her a doily too, but I´m not sure if I shall make a butterfly doily or a pineapple doily.

Here is the butterfly doily I was thinking of: http://www.angelfire.com/folk/celtwich/Butterflydoily.html

As you know, there are a lot of pineapple doilies, so I haven´t looked at all the patterns that are available, but here are some examples:

http://www.craftown.com/doily/pat9.htm

http://www.learn-how-to-crochet.com/doily.html

http://www.craftown.com/crochet/cropat48.htm

If I decide to make a pineapple doily, it won´t necesserily be oneof these I have linked to.

So what do you think I should make?

Hi! If it were me making this, I would try to make a smaller version of the original placemats, which are gorgeous btw. Maybe just by using a lighter weight thread and a smaller needle.

I used size 30 thread and 1 mm hook, so I don´t think the doily would be so much smaller than the place mats....

A (non butterfly) pineapple doily might be more versatile. It would go with the butterflies since they are pineapples too, but can be used in another room without breaking the 'set' if she doesn't want to use it in the dining area.

I saw a beautiful butterfly doily in The Crochet Yearbook Vol. 2. It is a doily surrounded by smaller butterflies. It would be perfect for your placemats.

Unfortuanally the library here doesn´t have that book...

Granny square: Do you have a suggestion for a nice pineapple doily?

Gosh, there are so many. The celtwich site has a whole section on them, as does CPC.

I recently made one virtually identical to the second one you posted--I think this one is better because it's using triples, I eventually had to end up switching to triples because my pattern ruffled (using dcs). This is an impressive looking doily and not hard at all.

Priscilla Hewett's patterns are easy to follow, as are "Panda Man's"

http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/lffunt/pineplace.htm (large-18")

http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/lffunt/ppdoily.html (medium - 11")

http://pandacrochet.8m.com/patterns.html (list of several doilies, some pineapples)

Have fun!
