Identifying wool yarn

I'm new at this... and I can't tell the difference between a wool/acrylic/rayon/etc. yarn fiber or any combination. I usually go to the local thrift stores to look for yarn, since it's way cheap:wink , but it doesn't always come with the original label.:thinking2

Is there a way to tell which one is 100% wool???

100% wool will melt in bleach.. simple test.. when you get home take a snip and soak it in bleach like a small dish of it.. if it melts away its wool.. or you can burn test it.. wool wont burn only smolder

Acrylic will melt if burned and wool will have an ash.

ooh didn't know about the bleach test!

 

I have a bag of 14 balls of some yarn that -looks- like wool, and -looks- handspun, but I don't know for sure. I tried the burn test, and couldn't tell... maybe the bleach test will come through for me. LOL!
