Felted crochet hook handle

Has anyone tried this:

Did it work as well as the picture? - which looks beautiful

 

And how did it 'wear' during use?

 

I like the idea but don't fancy trying to undo it if the felt doesn't work properly.

I haven't yet but I plan to I even bought some roving wool for just that purpose,now to find where I put it!
