Lap Blankets for Cancer Patients

I'm trying to get a crocheting group together at church. I've already got a place to donate the items; a local cancer resource center. They have requested that we make lap blankets (small afghans), and they want to give one to each newly-diagnosed cancer patient who comes there. We'll be making the lap blankets in different solid colors to symbolize the different types of cancer.

 

I'd love to hear input from others who have taken on similar projects.

Make sure you can actually count on the people that say they're going to help, to make things (when they have time - which they never seem to find) or donate supplies but don't.

 

If you can find a good core group of people then you should be good to go.
