A simple cosmetic/makeup bag pattern. All my searches come up empty, maybe someone on here knows of one. Thanks in advance!

I use a plain plastic one with a zipper, ugly but utilitarian...it would be easy to design your own.

 

Buy a zipper (I think the smallest is 7") and make 2 rectangles, 1 side slightly longer than 7" to make room for the seam and the other side, whatever depth you want. Sew the zipper to the long sides of the 2 rectangles (see the diagram below, I hope it makes sense, z is the zipper), open the zipper, fold the right sides together, and sew or crochet the sides and bottom of the rectangle together. Turn right side out, you're done!

I'd use sc, or tunisian maybe, so your "stuff" doesn't poke out as easily, or you could line the case with fabric, probably a better idea.

Those last couple of patterns bring up a good point - if this is a makeup bag that's going to be in your purse, mercerized cotton or better yet crochet nylon is the way to go. Regular acrylic worsted won't hold up as well.
