Washing a felted item

I have never felted anything before. So my question is, can an item be washed after it has been felted. Such as a hat or say a kitty bed and if so, do you have to reshape it everytime you wash it or does it then have memory of its shape after felting and drying?

 

Thanks for the help. There are some neat projects out there I just like to be able to properly care for items after I make them.

I haven't had occasion to wash my felted items until just this week--I washed the felted slippers I made for my 3yo. I washed them in cold water, along with other clothes. I did have to reshape them a bit, but not as much as the first time, and as always with wool, you have to let it dry very thoroughly.

Yes you can was a felted item but in COLD water only. Do not put it in the dryer. You will have to reshape and allow to dry throughly.
