Cro-tatting?

I'm not sure if I should put this thread here or crochet help....

 

But anyway I bought a pattern book from Annie's Attic with a bunch of really pretty potholders. I thought it was just crochet. But when it came in the mail I found it was cro-tatting. I don't know how to do tatting, and I can't really find any direction on how to do the cro-tat. Does anyone know a place online with good info on this? I really want to make these things!

Do you have to get a hook with the increments in it then?

I bought a cro-tat book that came with four hooks--two for thread, and two for yarn. The increments are only to help you make even picots, and the 'stuff' used to make the increments on the steel hooks wore off during my first practice session--a real waste of time.

 

But, you do need a straight hook (no thumb indentation) to do this. I would imagine regular afghan hooks would work.
