Baby Hat Pattern?

Hi there! I suppose she's almost 2 but she's my baby..... :manyheart

Anyway I just knit my daughter mittens from Lion Homespun, I'd like to make her a matching hat but I can't find a pattern in that weight of yarn and I'm afraid to attempt it freehanded. I'd probably have to rip it up 6 times and it's getting too cold too fast up here in the North for that!!!:( Any suggestions? :think

Homespun is a 5 weight yarn...so anything that is also knit with a 5/bulky weight yarn can be interchanged.

I found these:

this is for an apple, but would work in any color:

If you knit a hat from side to side (and stitch up that back seam) you can really make it to fit your daughter by fitting as you go.

One of my faves is to use short rows, (short rows means that you only knit a few stitches on some rows and then knit them back)

Cast on (say) 30 stitches

Row 1:knit 15, turn and knit back

Row 2:knit 30, turn and knit back Knit 30 is the whole row of course.

Repeat these two "rows".

This is too funny, I didn't think when I typed the colon and the word knit that I would get the smilie for knit. :knit
