yarn question about the buffalo plaid ghans

I tried the technique with 2 strands of worsted weight, and it is super thick. Suggestions for the brand/weight of yarn that works the best, your opinion those of you who have made them....thanks much, hugs D

What size hook did you use? I used 2 strands of ww with an N hook and I thought it was fine.

I used two strands of worsted weight... not sure of hook size, but I think I used an L. Yes, it does come out very thick... but it's really warm.

 

If you don't like it so thick, how about trying it in Caron SS. I find that yarn thinner than most WW yarns. Or, you could use a DK weight yarn. Gauge isn't terribly important. With a thinner yarn you could simply add some stitches/rows, or do an extra strip.

Actually gauge is important. for it to be square - you may need to adjust the # of rows to be equal to the length for the st's.

Ah...I used a J hook...must go up larger....also, it is RH worsted, probably on the thick side to begin with. I know I have a K, but I'll have to see if I have an N. I have a never used still on the cards P and Q...but they may be too large. Thanks all. I'll let you know how it turns out.
