Wool soakers...

Recommended Posts

I'd love to hear from those of you who cd and crochet covers/soakers. The first crochet thing I ever did was a longie for my dd but I never really put it on her b/c it felt so itchy...I think it was wool-ease. I just finished another cover for her (can't remember the wool as it was a scrap from my stash) and it turned out really cute (tickle turdle pattern). it's not as scratchy but it is also just a cover (not shorts or longies) so I don't think it will be too itchy and can't wait to try it.

My question is: what wool do you use?

I found the cuttest patterns on fern and fairie that I just can't wait to try but want a good quality, less scratchy/itchy wool.

Actually soakers & longies are on my to find a pattern and make list.

But if you want you could try patons classic wool since it doesn't cost a fortune and is fairly soft. Also Bernat has a new Alpaca yarn out that feels really soft, but it is $3.99 for about 100 yards.

You might want to also check out some online yarn sites to see what they have.

I like: http://www.patternworks.com

If I remember correctly lb woolease has acrylic in it so it wouldn't work the best (though I've found it very soft especially for blankets).

I only use fitted diapers so my daughter has always used wool.

Here is what my .02 is

Look for 100% wool on the package:

fishermans (can be koolaide dyed:) )

Lion Wool

Patons

Bernat (felting and alpaca)

All of those can be purchased at Joannes and some Hobby Lobbys. They all soften with the first wool wash and lanoline treatment.

Those are the cheapest out there and easy to get.

Cascade (have to buy on line)

fairly cheap

has LOTS of colors and works well.

Purewool www.100purewool.com

Some of the softest yarn out there. :bheart My daughter lived in PW longies/shorties/skirties and soakers her first year. I just made her 3 prs of shorties and a fall skirtie and starting some longies from PW cause it is just heavenly:)

great deals when you go into a coop with other mamas.

the one ply is great for newborn to crawling. Once crawling you need the 3 ply.

Peace Fleece

I only use for toddlers. It can not be destroyed LOL.

It MUST be conditioned to soften but some of the BEST wool for toddlers. My daughters wool stash consist mostly of PF now.:lol

Agian, great prices when you get into a co-op with other mamas.

then you have the 100% Premium yarns :manyheart :manyheart

Premium yarn is more expensive of course. BUT , it feels like heaven.:yes

All the above are mamas that I have dealt with and used their yarn and would highly recommend.

Feel free to ask about any other as I probably have premium yarns from them just can't remember LOL

Hope that helps some.

And , I have lots of pics of dd in her different wool if you need to see any.
