slip stitch in chain attached to work...

I'm doing 200 Crochet Blocks- Willow square... these are the instructions:

 

Round 4: ch 1, 1 sc into same place* chain 5, sl st into 5th ch from hook

 

i know how to do a slip stitch, but which side do I loop around to- if that makes sense? seems like it just looks like a jumbled mess
