Hook Question

I have bought a book that has ponchos, hats, kerchiefs, vests, and purses for little girls. Starting on my christmas 'shopping'. But my question is this:

 

For size 4-8 lots of the patterns call for US 7 4.50 mm hook. I have a G hook that is 4.25 and then my H is 5.00. Am I missing an important hook?

I'm not sure, but don't worry about it too much, it's the gauge that is more important than what hook you use anyways.

Yes it is the gauge that is important. I use a size F for most yarn, but whatever works for you....some crochet tight and some crochet loose...so make sure and test your gauge with whatever hook you are using and don't forget to post pictures....we love to look at each others work... Have fun...

Actually that hook falls between a size G and H. Susan Bates makes this and so does Clover. I use it for the Crochetville bags.

 

You can usually get it at Michaels and I have seen it at Joann's.

 

Depending on how tight or lose you crochet, you can use either a G or H if you like.

The clover soft touch hooks have a G/4.5 mm....I found this out the hard way! I love my clovers though.
