I have this book http://www.maggiescrochet.com/pages/Leaflets/Leisure_Arts/LA_3068_quickstep_rugs_main.htm and I love it. A lot of them are basic, but it saved me from having to think about math. I made some for my Mom out of plain old RHSS and she loves them. She says they wash up great and are wearing well even after 2 years in a busy kitchen.

I have also made some from stripes of fabric both braided and sewn and crocheted. Those I did without a specific pattern. I will never, ever, sew a braided one together again. I would make more crocheted rag rugs, but I think the key is using thinner stripes. Also if your going to do them get a quilters rotery cutter, it will save you hours.

I have been making rugs using the round ripple afghan pattern. I make them double stranded, using a J hook so there are less 'holes' in it. They work up fast and are thick.

Here is the latest one I have done.
