Following patterns?

It depends on the pattern and how much I like it. I almost never use the exact color. But I try to stick with the same kind of yarn.

 

There has been times when I have started a project only to find that I don't like the way the pattern is written and then I go off in my own direction. LOL

It was only when I made my plushie doll that I ever modified a pattern itself, and only when I made his clothes that I ever worked without one. Otherwise, when working off a pattern I hold exactly to the instructions, but I do substitute an equivalent weight/gauge and cheaper yarn in a color I like.

I never use the yarn or colors they specify.

 

I do it exactly as they say in the pattern.

 

The only time I change it is if I find an easier way to do it like if a pattern says to ch 4 and 12 dc into ring, I'll change it to ch 4 and then do 11 dc's into the bottom ch of the ch 4.
