washing skeins

I have a skein of Jamie baby that I need to wash. I have no clue how to do it.

also i would use the smallest bag.. so your yarn jsut "fits" .. there is less room for things to go wrong that way

Do you put the yarn in the dryer? And do you wash it with light towels or somthing?

I have a bunch of pink yarn and some multi colored that I need to wash now. No washing instructions on them, so I'll look up the Jamie baby washing instructions.

I had to wash some skeins, what worked for me was putting them in the leg of pantyhose/kneehighs and knotting the hose above each skein. It held it very snuggly.

 

I did put them in the dryer (still in the hose) but I used the sneaker drying rack so they weren't bouncing around <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/bounce012.gif" />

i didnt put mine in the dryer.. but you could.. that is a great idea Holly about the panty hose.. if you have many .. i would wash them alone.. in cold water .. gentle cycle..

This topic has me wondering :thinking2 ... should a person always wash yarn prior to using it for a project, or only if it has the potential to shrink? I'm still a novice crocheter and have never washed my yarn :eek2

I've never washed yarn before. I have some skeins that have a smell to them, but I might wait until I have made something out of it and then wash it. I've never worked with cotton yarn or anything that shrinks either.
