Wool Yarn prices?

Anyone know the best place to buy Wool yarn? I bought some merino the other day, but they are small skeins and I figure are going to take me at least 3 or 4 to do this purse I'm working on that I want to full .... but eeek... they were nearly $5 a skein.. is that normal? Anyone know a less expensive place to get it that will still full nicely?

I have found the merino wool from Paton's is $4.99 a ball and weighs about 3 ounces. I believe the Fisherman's wool from Lion brand is about $8.00 for 8 ounces, but is only in a natural color and you would have to dye it with kool-aid. You could check eBay for some vintage wool. I did buy several hanks of Bear brand off of there for about $3 a hank. Wool is definitely more pricey than acrylic.

I buy the merino wool at AC Moore Craft Store. This should also be available at many online stores. The brand is Paton's.

 

The lion brand is avavilable everywhere.
