Before or After?

I am sure this has been covered before. And I am sorry of not having the time to look through and find the answer myself. I am having a hard time finding the size yarn I need in the color I want. So my question is should I dye the yarn before or after I make the project? I am using Red Heart Baby Soft 3-ply 100% acrylic. I have never dyed yarn before, so I really have no idea what to do. I need it to be a light beige color. Thanks for your help.

Acrylic doesn't dye well, if at all. You can't use koolaid or food coloring, and I'm not sure about Rit dye. I've always dyed my wool before working up a project, but want to work one up, then dye to see how it looks.

Rit dyes do not work on acrylic look here.

 

I don't recommend Rit dyes it for dyeing. Procion dyes are better for cotton (celluose fibers) and acid dyes are better for wools(protein fibers)
