stripes or no stripes on my shawl?

aadttsm

Question

So I have this shawl I'm making for my G-ma for Christmas in Homespun.. I got an allure to trim it with but I've had a lot of fabulous luck with putting stripes in things before as well. This is, by the way, the biggest project I've ever done...

I was gonna take the Allure and make single-crochet stripes (may two or three rows) then another five or so of the open crochet, and then another stripe of Allure all the way down through the triangular shape of the shawl...

So.. stripes or no stripes?

(sorry for the bad pics, my dorm room doesn't have the best lighting)

Oh gosh, that sounds very interesting. I can't decide. I like the idea of stripes, I keep thinking I want to make a shawl with big blocks of stripes. Maybe you'll inspire me if you do. :D!

Where would it be worn? Solid is warmer, open is not quite as warm but is still warm. If it's always to be worn indoors or outdoors for short periods of time, I'd go with the alternating pattern.

Depends on how old Grandma is, too. If she's still having hot flashes :eek I definately go with the alternating pattern!!!! :D

Grandma is well past old flashes... I've decided not to go with stripes (they were coming out funny) and to use the "fluffy" stuff to not only trim and do fringe, but to do a "cozy" for her oxygen tank as well. And I think I'm gonna put a button on the front of it.

It's supposed to be pretty and warming for her inside her house for the most part. s'why I made it match her house decor. ;-)

Thanks for the advice, guys!
