Scarves at Banana Republic and Abercrombie

Guest wdlt21

Question

Expert crocheters, I need your help! My sisters really, really want me to try and recreate these scarves that are currently being sold at Banana Republic and Abercrombie (crocheted scarves are "HOT" this season!) Even though I reminded them that I'm just a beginner, they also convinced me that I was talented enough to learn and get better by Christmas! What I'm hoping you could help me with is to try and figure out the pattern of these two scarves:

Thanks for your help!<img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/cheer.gif" />

I love that scarf!!! I can hardly see the pattern in the one from Banana Republic though. I think the Abercrombie one would be easy to design, just use one of those thread motifs used for tablecloths, join them in a strip and do a shell stitch border all around, add some fringe and voila!!! You have a gorgeous scarf!!

here are a few patterns for motifs that might work:

Oh and for one of these, I would recommend using

TLC's <a href="http://coatsandclark.com/find_a_product/knitting_crochet/e519_swatches.htm" target="_new">Cara Mia</a> yarn. It's an angora blend around $7-8 a ball I think but extremely soft and sure to impress!!

Okay, I did some experimenting and I'm almost done with the pattern, just have to finish the rest of the squares and write the directions for the edging and fringe. If you can give me untill thursday, I'll have a finished pattern for you.

Hi all, thanks for all the nice comments on my abilities but lets wait and see the finished product before you turn me into a crochet saint!! :lol I'm sorry it's taking longer than I had anticipated but I had to finish my winter swap stuff and then a package for my secret pal. I have 7 of 10 motif squares done so far. I'm gonna try to finish the last 3, do the border and fringe and finish writing the pattern tonite. So hopefully I will be able to post it tomorrow. Unfortunately unless I can find someone with a digital camera to borrow, which is unlikely, I will not be able to post a pic for some time. So it will be up to the first brave soul that crochets my design to show the world what it looks like. I can tell you that I'm using RH Cotton Twist which I think has been discontinued now :cry ( I love this yarn!!). At the moment it looks like 2 balls will make the scarf. You can still buy it from herrschner's though. It has a really nice sheen, great drape and a nice weight for a year round scarf. Btw, I'm using the medium blue color which is beautiful!! I would recomend using soft worsted weight yarns with this pattern, others would be: TLC Cotton Plus, for splurging: Reynolds Mandalay. And for you chenille fans, I'd go with the Jewelbox. I do not think Caron's simply soft would work well because it does not have enough weight to drape nicely but maybe if you doubled it. Anyway, i'm gonna get off here now and go finish the scarf!!
