Dyeing for Babies

Does anyone know if koolaid dye or even RIT dye can be too harsh for baby skin? I'm looking at dying some cotton thread to do some baby projects with and am wondering #1 if it would cause sensitivity and #2 if it would be colorfast? :think

Kool-aid won't dye cotton thread. RIT will unlikely be colorfast unless you get some kind of fixitave and off hand I do not know what thait is. RIT dyes and similar dyes are multi-purpose dyes. Half the dye stuff will dye protien fibers (wools, silk) and the other half cellouse fibers(cotton, linen etc.) so you don't get a very vibrant color.

I recommend you get some procion dyes. I get my procion dyes at dharma trading co. These are the same dyes most dyers use to tie dye t-shirts. The make very vibrant colors on cotton.

I tie dyed several things for my kids when they were babies and they had no problems with the dyes.

I agree, procion dyes from dharma trading are the way to go.

We used them to tie-dye some onsies for our first baby and he--even newborn--had no reaction to wearing them.

Now our second baby wears them and the colors still look good 5 years later!
