I had to pick a pattern for the same thing, a poncho for a 4 y-o.

I am working on <a href="http://www.bellaonline.org/articles/art6057.asp" target="_new">this one</a> and it is going pretty quickly, I will make it shorter that the pattern calls for so it fits her. The neck is a little big but I will add a string with <a href="http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art24741.asp" target="_new">flowers</a> at the end. What is slowing me down is that the yarn I picked is not "spinned" but I don't think it will take me more than 5 hours, it is so easy.

I was also look at <a href="http://p084.ezboard.com/fcrochetvillefrm53.showMessage?topicID=2.topic" target="_new">this one</a> if you would like an alternate.

Good luck <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/thumbsup.gif" />

This one from Lion Brand is SUPER fast. It's the yarn that really makes it. For a 4 yo just do two rectangles measuring 10" x 20" and sew them together as shown. Then crochet the fun fur all around.

I made this one for my little girl over the summer. It's knit, but still went really quickly. It would be even quicker if done in sc or hdc with a larger than usual hook.
