Hello snbarclay

There are instructions and a pic for a half granny here and another one here -- hope these might help you.

I've been thinking about how to do a two-colour square myself (with the colours changing along the diagonal). I've got a lovely patchwork star-type afghan pattern that uses some two-colour squares. . . it would have you cut off the old colour and join in the new twice on every round. :eekDefinitely not for me! I haven't tried this out yet, but this is what I'm thinking:

  • Say you're wanting to make the square in white and blue. Start each round at the top right corner (which I'll call corner #1) with white, but only work half the corner; that is, only work one block of 2 or 3 ch and 2 dcs instead of a full corner of 2 blocks with chs between. Continue as for a normal granny square until you've worked half of corner #3.

  • Drop white yarn and contnue with blue yarn, working rest of corner #3, corner #4 and back to corner #1.

  • Now you can't switch to white because you left the white yarn hanging back at corner #3, so: Turn, ch 2 or 3 as you prefer to stand for the first dc, and work back to the middle of corner #3, where you drop your blue yarn and pick up the white to finish the round.

You'd continue this way, turning and working back each time, only changing colour at corner #3. I haven't quite worked out all the details yet, but this is the direction I'm thinking. Does it help at all? If you try it out, do please let me know how you get on.
