I have never used the thread you are going to use but I have made many baskets, book marks, bowl that sits on a plate and several large standing angels (17in) .I have always used bedspread weight thread and six crochet hook. I have found out that sugar starch holds up the best, does not break down and keeps the white color if crocheting in white.

I had tried the commercial stiffner but did not like the outcome.

Sugar Starch

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

Boil water then stir in sugar until it is thoroughly disolved. Do not boil

this mixture.

Drop in article you want to starch, swish around a little,

squeeze out access.

If article is flat just spread out to dry.

If bowl- spread over bottom of a bowl that is the size of your crochet

bowel.

Let is dry thoroughly

I have a plate with bowl sitting on a end table and it has held up for three

years. Angels-I have one that is twelve years old and still holding it's shape.

I hope this gives you a little help

I used to make starched baskets with handlles and little bells for ornaments. I always used sugar starch, But since you are working in color I don't think that will work as well. Here are 2 posting dealing with starching items. maybe you can find what would work best there.
