Felting freeform on a purse

I am making a purse in some cascade wool, bright purple and magenta and I was wondering if I could do some freeform flowers, sew them on the outside and felt everything at once. I have some lighter purple, some green and light pink wool.

 

Would this work? Has anyone tried this? Let me know. Thanks!
