Tassel Hat Schematics

Feel free to use these schematics to create your own, gorgeous, one-of-a-kind tassel hat!

Great for both boys and girls…even adults!

This hat works up quick and uses very little yarn.

Included is 2 sections. First is basic measuring schematics. Next is the pattern I used to make this tri-color one for my daughter.

SCHEMATICS

First, measure the circumference of the recipient’s head.

If you can’t, here are basic measurements:

Newborn: 16 inches; 6-12 months, 18 inches; 18 months to 2T, 19 inches; 3T-4T, 20 inches; child to adult 21-22 inches.

Next, measure your length from forehead to crown.

Newborn 4 inches, 6mo-2T, 5 inches, small child to adult, 6-8 inches.

To make the tassel hat, you will need to make a rectangle that is ½ the circumference in width and 2x the forehead-crown measurement in length.

Example:

For my daughter {7 yrs old}, her hat is 20 inches in circumference and 8 inches in length,

So my rectangle is {20/2)=10 inches wide and {8x2)=16 inches in length.

HAT

Start with your favorite yarn, hook and stitch and create a rectangle.

Make your starting chain equal to the width measurement plus however many extra chains you need to start your first stitch.

After completing your rectangle, fold in half so the short ends meet {wrong sides together} and sew side seams. Turn right side out.

SC around bottom opening.

TASSELS

To make tassels, wrap yarn about 30 times around 4 fingers. Take a small piece of yarn and pull thru all top loops. Tie in a knot to secure loops together.

Take a second piece of yarn and tie around all yarns about ½ inch down from top loops. Wrap yarn around a couple times, knot and weave in end.

Cut yarn loops at bottom edge…trim so they are all even.

Sew top of each tassel to each top corner of hat!

Hi,

The 7 times is right. If you look above, you make the first HDC row in # 2 then again in # 3.

When you start the band again at the end of the row, you make a HDC row of blue in row 10....so in row 11, you need to do it 7 more times.

Basically, there should be 8 rows of band color on either end.
