Yarn size question

Tampa Doll

Recommended Posts

I just bought a pattern and they said they used 2mm yarn.  2.25 mm or 2.5 mm hooks.

I know when someone tells me what it is, I will smack my self in the head:bang and say how stupid can I be.

They do not name a brand, so that can not help me.

Thank you all

Um, you are not stupid, that's just very odd, or maybe it is the way yarn or thread is defined somewhere not-in-the-USA.

The hooks are easy, The only way I can think of to go about this is to think "wraps per inch" on the yarn

Hooks https://www.craftyarncouncil.com/standards/hooks-and-needles  So that would be a 'B' yarn hook or size 1 steel hook.

WPI https://www.craftyarncouncil.com/standards/how-measure-wraps-inch-wpi

There are 2.54 centimeters, or 25.4 millimeters, in 1 inch.  Double check my logic & math, but that means a 1mm yarn would be 25-ish WPI, so a 2mm yarn should be HALF that WPI, right?  So somewhere on the order of 12.5-ish WPI would be somewhere between #2 or #3 US yarn weight.

I think?

Is it a super fine #1 baby, sock, fingering yarn?  That is the only type that recommends those size hooks that I can find.  The next level is fine #2 yarn, which is baby and sport but recommends hook size 3.5mm to 4.5 mm hook, which strikes me as a big hook size for that yarn.

ok I guess I will have to try each size yarn and see how it works out.  I have seen some say mm, but they give you a manufactures name, not this time.

Thank you both.  I will check things out and let you know.
