Trying or tried felting?

Recommended Posts

  • Has anybody tried felting/fulling  their wool crochet items?
  • What did you like about it? What did you stop?
  • What didn’t you like about it?
  • Would you try it or try again?
  • What would make if you wanted to try it? Or try it again?

Never tried it (except with a laundry accident with a purchased garment long ago), but I don't work with wool, with the exception of socks with a wool/nylon blend which I hand wash.

I saw your other post with the felted cutwork which is lovely, but aside from artwork like yours, or maybe a toy, kitchen items or a tote, I can't think of where felting would be an asset (hmm, maybe a pea coat or driving hat..).  I think a lot of people like to crochet garments and/or blankets which (in my opinion) are nicer when the fabric keeps it's original drapey qualities.

Cutwork is the wrong word, I should probably have said pieced work - felted shapes assembled to make a 3-D item, like your poppy pincushion for example, or other items that appeared to be a hybrid of felted and not-felted pieces.

Poppy pincushion? The poppy is approximately 14” across.

I guess I would call my work “freestyle” instead of “freeform” as I tie on different yarns and continue crocheting instead of making a lot of different pieces and joining them.

Thank you so much for looking at my work.

I have done wool felting! It is easy and quick to make small intricate projects. small star shaped felting needles and a foam board are a must have :) bought my supplies at hobby lobby and amazon and used upcycle foam
