Help! I don't know what this means.

This might be a silly question and easily resolved, but what does '6 x 2 dc (= 12 dc)' mean? I'm doing my first pattern and am having a lot of trouble.

Badly written pattern, especially for a newbie.  
2dc in previous 6 stitches. (12dc) total

I have problems with their statement.

"There is no right or wrong way to write an amigurumi pattern, each method works, as long as it is clear within the pattern how to read it."  

We get too many help requests for badly written patterns because they were "clear" to the designer.
